Exciting news from HOTmilk Lingerie

Exciting news from HOTmilk Lingerie, Sue Dunmore, former head of design for Bendon LTD, has joined their design team as General Manager of Design.
Sue will be working closely with co-owners Ange Crosbie and Lisa Ebbing over the coming months as is looking forward to being a part of the decisions that will further shape the development of this incredible brand. With more than a decade with Bendon, including the development of the Elle Macpherson Maternity program as well as Bendon Maternity, Sue has a wealth of experience in designer lingerie. With a degree in 3D design, she “fell into” a role as lingerie buyer for Marks and Spencer, loved it and was soon fully entrenched in the industry.Having worked with big name brands, Marks and Spencer Pic, Elle Macpherson intimates, Stella McCartney Lingerie, Bendon, Fayreform, DimitySO, Hey Sister and hickory, the move to HOTmilk Lingerie is not one which will phase her. In four years the company has created a foot print in over 47 countries, six continents, services over 850 retail customers and impacts the lives of thousands of women around the globe.
Sue has hit the ground running so you can expect to see some fantastic new advancements from HOTmilk. We will be showcasing the new collection shortly, full of fantastic, well crafted moulded cups, spacer foams and flexi-wires, all thoroughly tested and researched, not to mention the introduction of some exciting new nightwear pieces.
On her new role with the New Zealand based company, Sue has this to say:
“For many years maternity lingerie was perceived as a necessary evil, functional and frumpy but most definitely not fun. Little was done to celebrate the fact that you were pregnant and that it could possibly be a time to feel gorgeous, glamorous and sexy. HOTmilk have managed to bring all of those elements together with their lingerie, they have taken all of the functional elements and they do the job but they are also feminine and fabulous – what a celebration.”
What does this mean for Pregoli customers? Fantastic new cutting edge designs & advancements. HOTmilk specialise in sexy Maternity & Nursing Lingerie - to make all Mums & Mums-to-Be feel comfortable and gorgeous. View the new range of HOTmilk Lingerie on our website now.

Pregoli announced as a Finalist in The David Awards

Heroes in small business battle it out for top spot

What a way to top off the first year in business!

Pregoli has been named a finalist in The 2010 finalists in the The David Awards: heroes in small business.

The David Awards recognise the unsung heroes in home and small businesses throughout New Zealand. Just like David taking on Goliath in the Bible, the tenacity, courage and ingenuity of these business owners help them punch well above their weight and place them firmly at the forefront of entrepreneurship in this country.

Organizer of the Awards, Heather Douglas, says, “Typically, small and micro businesses are very diverse and the judges commented on how broad a range of businesses entered the awards this year. It is fantastic to see some really exciting businesses in the spotlight. They have worked hard to achieve success and they deserve the recognition now.”

Category winners and a Supreme Award will be announced on the 6th of October and we wish all finalists the best of luck.

A podcast of the winners will be available for download at www.thedavidawards.co.nz.

Pregoli provides support to families affected by the Earthquake.

Pregoli in conjunction with Child Psychologist Clare Tatterson, held a successful Community Evening on 15th September at Riccarton Park.  Families from Christchurch & Kaiapoi came to listen to Child Psychologist, Clare Tatterson speak about how the Earthquake has affected children (and adults) and learn’t simple strategies to help them through this difficult time.
While children played with toys and coloured in bright, happy pictures, Clare spoke about the Trauma some Children may have experienced. Clare mentioned some key behavioural signals were: irritability, tearful for no apparent reason, unusually clingy, changed eating habits.

Some suggestions on dealing with this were to spend more quality time with your children, to limit media coverage of the earthquake, turning the TV off one hour before bedtime, and instead reading books or colouring in. Massage was also suggested as a wonderful way to wind down before bed. Clare also mentioned some relaxation exercises, which can be performed throughout the day as well as before bed. More information is available at www.pregoli.co.nz <http://www.pregoli.co.nz>

Promoted through the Pregoli website, a request was also made to the public to help provide clothing and toys to those in need.  “We’ve received almost a trailer load of babies, kids and adult clothing, baby toys, blankets and books from customers around Christchurch and throughout New Zealand” said Belinda Simon, Co-owner of Pregoli. One supplier in Auckland, Nature Baby sent a large box of organic baby food and teething rusks. The clothing, toys & food will be distributed to those families in need and to Salvation Army stores around the city in the coming days. “The support and generosity of New Zealander’s has been amazing” said Belinda.

Pregoli is an online Maternity & Children’s Boutique, based in Christchurch, New Zealand. www.pregoli.co.nz <http://www.pregoli.co.nz>

Huge 7.1 Earthquake Hits Christchurch

At 4.35am this morning, a huge 7.1 earthquake hit Christchurch in the South Island of New Zealand.

The centre of the earthquake was 30k west of Christchurch (close to Darfield), and 10k deep – which is very shallow. The quake was felt throughout the South Island, and as far North as Wellington. There was no indication that this earthquake was coming.

UPDATE: 12 midday
John Key is on his way to Wellington then to Christchurch.
The Mayor of Christchurch has declared a state of emergency in the city of Christchurch.
The inner city has been closed.
Please stay in your homes so emergency services can get to the people who need help.
The damage is more extensive than they first thought. Burst water pipes throughout the city, and in Brighton have caused flooding.
Residents are advised to reserve water, and watch out for electrical issues when your power does come back on.
There has not been looting in the city despite earlier reports.
Flights could be taking off as early as this afternoon.

On our arrival at Christchurch Airport at 6am this morning, we were told that Air Traffic Control (based here Christchurch) was down, and therefore there were no flights nationwide.  There was also expected damage to planes and the runway. The Airport is now closed and they are re-assessing the situation regularly.

Many members of the public have reported ceilings caving in, paintings falling from walls, items from cupboards strewn across rooms.

There was more substantial damage to older buildings in the city, with Victoria St & Manchester St some of the more affected areas. It’s been reported the Christchurch Cathedral bells rang for 7 minutes after the first earthquake, which shows the extent of the shake.

Residents are being advised to stay indoors, and not to leave unless its an emergency. Any minor injuries should be treated at home or in the first instance at the 24 hour surgery. The emergency department at Christchurch Hospital is busy, but in control.

It is hoped the power will return to 90% of Canterbury homes by dark today. Water could be off for days.

There is no risk of tsunami.

There have been several after shocks, measuring around 3.9-5.3

I'm pleased to say that although the Pregoli Shop is in quite a mess, the Life Factory WeeGo Glass Bottles from Pregoli survived the fall & are in one piece, so that something to say for a glass bottle!

Credits to www.press.co.nz for these images, we've got more to come.

Caramel Popcorn

Caramel popcorn
Makes 14 cups
Ingredients
                           1/4 cup vegetable oil
                           1/2 cup popping corn
                           Caramel
                           125g butter, chopped
                           3/4 cup white sugar
                           2 tablespoons honey
                           1 cup pecans, roughly chopped

Method
Line a tray with baking paper. Heat oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add 2 pieces of popping corn. If corn slowly turns around in a circle then oil is hot enough.
Add remaining popping corn. Cover with a tight-fitting lid. When corn starts popping, shake saucepan gently. Remove from heat when corn stops popping. Transfer to a large bowl, discarding any unpopped corn.
Make caramel: Combine butter, sugar and honey in a saucepan over medium heat. Cook, stirring, for 5 to 7 minutes or until sugar has dissolved. Bring mixture to the boil. Boil, uncovered, without stirring, for 5 to 8 minutes or until light golden.
Remove from heat. Stir in pecans. Pour caramel mixture over popcorn and stir until popcorn is coated. Spread over prepared tray. Set aside to cool. Break into pieces. Serve.
Notes
Variation: For pizza popcorn: Add 60g melted butter, 1/4 cup grated parmesan cheese, 2 teaspoons dried oregano, 1 teaspoon garlic salt and 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives to 7 cups of popcorn. Toss until well combined.
Variation: For Cajun popcorn: Add 80g melted butter and 1 to 2 tablespoons of Cajun spice mix to 7 cups of popcorn. Toss until well combined.

Wired Maternity/Nursing Bras

One of the most common question that pops up at our Pregoli Product Evenings has been about underwire in Maternity and Nursing Bras.

Why do some bras have it and some not?
Why do some say to avoid it altogether?

Tracey Montford – Designer and Founder of Cake Lingerie has done a fantastic job of answering these questions below.

The question is not an easy one to clearly answer & hence several suppliers and so called authorities in the matter have chosen to ignore it, categorically stating women should not wear underwire. I attempt to put to rest this subject once and for all, so please bear with me.
There is no categoric evidence linking the use of underwired bras to causing mastitis. It is one of those myth’s that has self permeated in countries like Australia, NZ & the UK. Some older schools of thought & so called bra fitting authorities have previously promoted the use of the same bra during pregnant & breast-feeding. Studies have shown the two periods to have a unique set of characteristics and in most cases, different size bras will be required. So please check for the below symptoms;
The key points to look out for when wearing a maternity or nursing bra are;
1) Ensure the channel of the cup sits around the base of the breast tissue (flush against the ribcage), not on the breast tissue - Should the channel be sitting on the breast tissue, the cup size is more likely than not too small – go up a cup size & vice versa
2) Ensure the top part of the cup isn’t cutting into the breast – Should you witness this symptom, the cup isn’t deep enough for your breast and is more likely than not too small – go up a cup size & vice versa
3) The breast should not feel compressed, flattened or restricted by the bra cup fabric – Consider going up a cup & vice versa
4) The side of the bra cup should encompass the breast tissue and not be placed on it - Should you witness and bulging, the cup size is more likely than not too small – go up a cup size or try another bra style
5) The horizontal band (where the hooks & eyes come together) should not ride up your back when fastened, struggling to take the weight of your breast. Try adjusting the shoulder straps but if that doesn’t help, get yourself a new bra. This one has lost its ability to perform its function and provide sufficient support.
Please note, a bra typically has a worn life of about 6 months. The elastics and fabrics loose their elasticity and strength due to regular wash & wear. To ensure good breast health, change your bra regularly whilst using the opportunity to look out for the above mentioned symptoms!
Most importantly, get a bra that provides a degree of separation in the centre front are (between your boobs). Whist a ‘Madonna/ Cone’ shaped breast look isn’t flattering for most women, its important to have a degree of separation as this is the ideal position for the breast & avoids the ligaments to be stretched. Besides a mono-boob look is not attractive. But that’s for another blog post…
I suggest putting your underwire bra away, during the first 2 weeks from when your milk is coming in. This can generally take place a week prior to birth and a week after. The breast will generally settle after this period after which you can wear your wired nursing bra. Importantly though, do check for the above mentioned symptoms. Should you witness any of the same, get a new bra. The reality is that you would have worn that bra during your pregnancy anyway, so its time for a change.
I can guarantee you one thing; you will never get the support and a secure enough feel from a non-wired maternity or nursing bra, so unless you want to look like my grandmother or desire a ‘East – West’ flattened shape, do invest in one or two wired maternity & nursing bras. They are particularly useful on days when you need that added secure, supportive look and feel.
Another option to consider a Flexible Wire Maternity and Nursing Bra. These exist on the market and will provide the best of both worlds. Mainland Europe, Scandinavia and the US predominantly use Underwire Maternity Bras & Underwire Nursing Bras. Increasingly so brands in the Australia, NZ and the UK are introducing them. Lastly, for what its worth, 5 years ago whilst breast-feeding I wore non-wired maternity & nursing bras. I ended up with Mastitis and it certainly had nothing to do with Wire Maternity & Nursing Bras.
